It took nearly eight decades for David Walker to be positively identified. In 2018, the remains of the “Unknowns” were exhumed for further analysis. Through meticulous anthropological, dental, and mitochondrial DNA examinations conducted by the DPAA and the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System, Walker’s identity was finally confirmed.
A Lasting Tribute
As a fitting tribute to his memory, a rosette will now be placed next to Walker’s name on the Walls of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Furthermore, plans are underway for his burial at Arlington National Cemetery in September, honouring his sacrifice and service to his country.
