The accident, which took place around 1.15am, has left the authorities grappling for answers. Ramban SSP Anuj Kumar indicated that heavy rain and poor visibility at night may have contributed to the tragic incident. Investigations are still underway to determine the exact cause of the mishap.

As the bodies of the deceased were discovered scattered across the hillside, with Aadhaar cards from their belongings offering some clues to their identities, the search for the missing taxi, a Tavera SUV, continues. Drones are being utilized to aid in locating the vehicle as the rescue operation, involving the police, SDRF, and other personnel, presses on.

Among the deceased are the driver, Jammu native Balwan Singh, along with Vipin Mukhiya, Inderjeet, Udahesh, Rajan, Kalaish, Sandeep, Raj Kumar, Ram Blas, and Hari. The loss of these lives has prompted an outpouring of condolences from top officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for the kin of each deceased individual. President Droupadi Murmu, J&K lieutenant-governor Manoj Sinha, and Union minister Jitendra Singh have also expressed their sorrow over the tragic incident.
