The GoLocalProv News Team reported on Friday, March 29, 2024, that an arrest was made in the accident that closed down I-95 on Thursday night. A wrong-way driver in a white SUV caused a three-car accident on Route 95 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The driver, identified as Matthew E. Fisher, was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Liquor – Serious Injury, Reckless Driving, and Driving to Endanger – Resulting in Serious Injury. Fisher, age 39 from Attleboro, Massachusetts, was held at Rhode Island Hospital and is set to appear in court on April 11, 2024. An arrest has been made following the incident that caused the closure of the I-95 highway on Thursday night in Rhode Island.
Reports came in around 10:00 PM as State Police received multiple E911 calls regarding a wrong-way driver heading south in the northbound lanes of Route 95 in Pawtucket. The vehicle in question was described as a white SUV. As Troopers rushed to the scene, they discovered a three-car collision at the Barbara Leonard Way overpass in Providence, with one of the vehicles involved being the white SUV.
Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that the white SUV was travelling southbound in the high-speed lane of Route 95 North when it collided head-on with one vehicle just south of Branch Avenue, before striking a second vehicle. Providence Fire and Rescue swiftly transported the driver of the white SUV, identified as Matthew E. Fisher, aged 39, from Attleboro, Massachusetts, as well as the occupants of the first vehicle that was hit, to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Matthew E. Fisher has since been charged with Driving Under the Influence of Liquor – Serious Injury (awaiting blood test results), Reckless Driving, and Driving to Endanger – Resulting in Serious Injury. Fisher was detained at Rhode Island Hospital and is set to appear at 6th District Court on April 11, 2024.
