Man who made derogatory remarks believed to be overseas

Police in Kuala Lumpur have revealed that the man who was caught on video making derogatory remarks towards Islam, the Sultan of Selangor, and the police force is believed to have recorded the video overseas. The man, identified as N. Ganesparan, left the country in 2018 and has not returned since. The authorities have no records indicating his return to Malaysia.

Multiple cases of offensive statements

Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, stated that this was not the first time Ganesparan had made offensive statements about the royal institution, religion, and politics. A total of 22 cases have been opened against him since 2018. In 2021, he was charged in absentia for insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Prime Minister.

International pursuit for the suspect

Police have requested Interpol to place Ganesparan under a red notice, but due to the nature of the offence, involving religious and racial issues, Interpol regulations do not apply. However, his passport was revoked in November 2020, and efforts are being made to locate him. Ganesparan is believed to be in Hamburg, Germany, after leaving Malaysia on November 2, 2017.

Legal action and police report

The Selangor state government has lodged a police report against Ganesparan to facilitate further investigation and take stern action against him. State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah emphasized the importance of defending the sovereignty of the royal institution and Islam against malicious elements.
