Authorities in Kuala Lumpur believe that a man captured in a video making derogatory comments about Islam, the Sultan of Selangor, and the police force is currently residing overseas. The man, identified as N. Ganesparan, left Malaysia in 2018 and has not returned since. This is not the first time Ganesparan has made offensive remarks about the royal institution, religion, and politics. Man Recorded Making Derogatory Remarks Overseas
The recent video showing a man making offensive remarks towards Islam, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and the police force was believed to have been recorded overseas. According to the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the man in question, N. Ganesparan, has been out of the country since 2018, with no records indicating his return.
Past Offensive Statements
This is not the first time that N. Ganesparan has made derogatory statements about the royal institution, religion, and politics. In fact, a total of 22 investigation papers have been opened against him since 2018. Investigations in 2018 revealed that he had left the country and had not returned, suggesting that the video was recorded overseas.

Legal Action Taken
In 2021, police charged N. Ganesparan in absentia for insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Prime Minister. The authorities have requested Interpol to issue a red notice for him, but unfortunately, the specific Interpol provision for religious and racial issues is not applicable. Nevertheless, the Immigration Department has canceled his passport, and his passport was revoked in November 2020.
Current Whereabouts
It is reported that N. Ganesparan is believed to be in Hamburg, Germany, after leaving Malaysia on November 2, 2017. The police have opened an investigation paper against him for his alleged offensive statements under various sections of the Penal Code and Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
State Government’s Response
The Selangor state government has lodged a police report against Ganesparan to aid in the investigation and to ensure proper action is taken. State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of the royal institution and Islam against any form of disrespect or incitement.
He further stated that Ganesparan’s offensive remarks could potentially fuel anger and religious sensitivities, leading to potential unrest and division. Thus, legal action must be pursued to safeguard the sovereignty of the royal institution and the sanctity of Islam.
