On that fateful day, police responded to a call of a shooting inside an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Fort Apache Road. The victim, identified as 41-year-old Raul Cardoza, was found near the entrance inside a white van. Despite the efforts of the officers to provide medical aid, Cardoza succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.

Lt. Jason Johannson revealed that the victim was at the location for work purposes, as he was a carpet cleaner intending to provide an estimate to a potential customer. The suspect, Kayla Alery, allegedly shot Cardoza while he was seated in the driver’s seat of his van. Police have stated that there was no prior interaction between the victim and the suspect, leading them to believe it was a random shooting.
