NEW DELHI: Nearly a week after two friends were stabbed to death in outer Delhi’s Ranhola, a police investigation has revealed that the double murder was a case of mistaken identity.

Police have arrested four people in the case – Gaurav (23), Keshri Kumar Pandey (35), Sandesh Kumar (28) and Gaurav (22). During interrogation, the suspects claimed that one of their friends was robbed by two men named Anand and Puneet and their associates on March 15. Two days later, someone informed them that Anand’s associates were drinking near a wall. They went there and stabbed the men to death, but it later turned out that the victims were not part of any gang. Police reached the spot after receiving a PCR call about the incident and found two bleeding men on the road. Both of them had stab wounds on the chest.

The accused were seeking revenge for a robbery. They were taken to the hospital but were declared dead on arrival. The deceased were identified as Mukesh (34), who worked as a loader, and Rajesh (33), a driver. They lived in Baprola village.

Seeking revenge on the men who had robbed their friend, the accused began searching for them. On March 17, when they heard of them being sighted, they went on two bikes and began beating Mukesh, Rajesh, and Sonu with sticks. Subsequently, they stabbed them, resulting in the deaths of two of them.

In response to the incident, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana has assured the public that the police are taking the case seriously and will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. He has also urged the community to come forward with any information that may help in the investigation.
