Hyderabad Student Missing In USA: Another distressing incident involving an Indian student has emerged in the United States, leaving his family in a state of shock. 25-year-old Mohammed Abdul Arfath, who was pursuing a master’s degree in information technology at Cleveland University, Ohio, has not been in contact with his family since March 7.
The worrying situation took a drastic turn when Arfath’s parents, who reside in Malkajgiri district near Hyderabad, received a ransom call from unidentified individuals claiming to be responsible for his disappearance. The callers demanded a ransom of $12,000 and even went as far as threatening to sell Arfath’s kidney.
Having left for the USA in May 2023, Arfath’s sudden disappearance has left his family distraught, with no communication from him since March 7. His father, Mohammed Saleem, recently received a phone call from an unknown caller revealing that Arfath had been kidnapped by a criminal gang involved in drug trafficking in Cleveland. The demand for ransom was made, but no specific instructions were given on how to make the payment.
Concerned for his son’s safety, Saleem immediately contacted his relatives in the USA, who then filed a missing person report with the Cleveland police, leading to the issuance of a watch order. According to the description in the order, Arfath was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, a red jacket, and blue jeans.
In a desperate attempt to locate his son, Saleem reached out to the Indian Consulate in Chicago on March 18, seeking their assistance in tracing Abdul. He has also appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for help in the search efforts.
