The Air Intelligence Unit Seizes Over 3,700 Grams of Gold at Cochin Airport

In a recent development at the Cochin Airport in Kerala, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) made a significant seizure of over 3,700 grams of gold from four passengers who arrived from Bangkok. The incident took place on Saturday when the AIU officers intercepted the passengers at the exit gate based on profiling.

The gold, which was in paste form, weighed a total of 3771.41 grams. One of the accused was identified as Sumith from Kannur, while the other three were female passengers who were arrested along with Sumith. The gold was cleverly concealed inside the brassiers and sanitary pads worn by the female passengers, as well as in the waist belt of the male passenger.

Judicial Custody and Investigation

All four passengers have been remanded under judicial custody for 15 days, and an investigation is currently ongoing. Further details regarding the case are awaited as the Customs Department officials continue their inquiry into the matter.

The gold, in compound form, weighed 954 grams and was concealed inside the passenger’s body. The AIU officers intercepted the passenger at the exit gate based on profiling.
