The Punjab Police has formed a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the hooch tragedy in Sangrur district, which claimed the lives of at least 20 individuals. The SIT, led by ADGP Law and Order Gurinder Singh Dhillon, will investigate the linkages behind the incident. Eight people, including two masterminds, have been arrested for their involvement in selling spurious liquor in the area. The police have recovered a significant amount of ethanol and bottles of suspected spurious liquor. Another committee has been appointed to further investigate the matter. Notably, Harmanpreet and Gurlal have been identified as the masterminds behind the heinous act.

The authorities have seized a significant amount of incriminating evidence, including 200 litres of ethanol, various bottles of alcohol, suspected spurious liquor, empty bottles, and a bottling machine.
