Two men tragically lost their lives due to suffocation while attempting to clear sludge from a drain in Port Qasim, Karachi. The victims, identified as Amjad, 26, and Qadeer, 24, were overcome by toxic fumes in the drain near a fertiliser company. Police and Chippa volunteers rushed to the scene to recover the bodies, which were taken to JPMC for further investigation. The men were clearing waste from drains connected to oil companies, with the intention of selling the collected grease for manufacturing purposes. KARACHI Drain Tragedy Claims Two Lives

In a devastating turn of events, two young men lost their lives due to suffocation while attempting to clear sludge from a drain in Port Qasim, Karachi. The incident, which took place near a fertiliser company, resulted in the tragic deaths of 26-year-old Amjad and 24-year-old Qadeer.

According to Bin Qasim Town DSP Naeem Ahmed, the two men entered the drain in an effort to remove the thick waste that had accumulated over time. Unfortunately, they were overcome by toxic fumes within the drain, leading to their untimely demise.

Efforts to Retrieve the Bodies

Upon receiving the distress call, local police and Chippa volunteers swiftly responded to the scene in an attempt to retrieve the bodies of the deceased. The bodies were subsequently transferred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal procedures to be carried out.

Details of the Tragic Incident

DSP Ahmed revealed that the two men had been tasked with clearing waste from drains that were connected to various oil companies in the area. The collected grease would later be sold for use in the production of items such as soap.

SHO Bin Qasim police station, Wilayat Shah, confirmed that the bodies of Amjad and Qadeer have been handed over to their respective families for burial. The deceased individuals hailed from Punjab and were residing in the Lalabad area of Sukhan.

As the community mourns the loss of these two young souls, questions arise regarding the safety protocols in place for individuals undertaking such hazardous tasks. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by those working in sanitation and waste management.
