On the evening of January 1, 2024, ISP responded to the scene of a fatal collision where Dixon and several other motorists had stopped to aid the driver of the overturned vehicle. As Dixon stood near the wrecked car, a reckless driver sped through the crash site, striking her and another man. Despite efforts to save her, Dixon succumbed to her injuries.

The offending driver fled the scene heading northbound on I-55 and was last spotted near the I-80 interchange. Authorities have identified the vehicle involved as a dark gray 2010-2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor, which sustained significant damage to the front left corner, left side headlight, and left side mirror.
