In a shocking incident that took place at a warehouse in Mount Vernon, a group of 10 to 15 individuals attempted a gunpoint robbery, leading to a fatal shootout between the employees and the robbers. The incident occurred at a warehouse located at 137 South Fifth Ave, which sells unlicensed marijuana and nicotine products to smoke shops.
Details of the Incident
The attempted robbery took place on Tuesday, March 19, around 12:15 a.m. As employees were assisting customers, the group of robbers forced them back into the building at gunpoint. A gunfight ensued between the employees and the robbers, resulting in the deaths of one employee and one of the robbers. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed by authorities.
Arrest of the Defendants
Following the deadly incident, five suspects were apprehended in the Bronx the evening after the robbery. The individuals were identified as Ilario Contreras (23), Jerpi Diaz-Feliz (25), Jhoan Diaz-Feliz (23), Victor Jimenez (35), and Joseph Perez (26). The suspects were charged with various offenses, including conspiracy to commit robbery, drug trafficking, and murder through the use of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Smith stated, “The defendants’ alleged brazen actions demonstrated extreme disregard for public safety and posed a significant threat to the community.” Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Gibson also expressed concern, emphasizing the city’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.
