McCallum stands accused of pushing her husband, Roberto Caraballo, down the basement stairs of their Michigan home, where she allegedly proceeded to beat him with a hammer and suffocate him. The tragic fate of Caraballo remained a mystery for many years, as his charred remains were found in a metal box in a blueberry patch in western Michigan. It wasn’t until 2015 that the body was positively identified as that of Caraballo, shedding light on the dark events that transpired in the McCallum household.

McCallum, now 63, evaded authorities for years before being apprehended in a hotel on the outskirts of Rome in 2020. The extradition process that followed led to her return to the U.S. in 2022, where she was taken into custody in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Initial attempts to extradite McCallum from Pakistan, where she was believed to have been living, were unsuccessful. It was later revealed that she had travelled to Italy, attempting to establish permanent residency there. However, the long arm of the law caught up with her, and she was brought back to face the charges against her.

According to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, McCallum is the final person to be charged in connection with Caraballo’s death. Allegations suggest she enlisted the help of her daughter, Dineane Ducharme, and a friend, Christopher McMillan, in disposing of the body after the heinous act.

Ducharme is currently serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, while McMillan, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, received a 15-to-40-year sentence. McMillan’s testimony in a plea agreement provided crucial details about the planned killing, implicating both Ducharme and McCallum in the gruesome events that unfolded that fateful day.

The trial of Beverly McCallum promises to shed light on a dark chapter in Michigan’s history, unraveling the intricate web of deception and violence that led to the untimely demise of Roberto Caraballo. As the proceedings unfold, the truth behind this tragic case will finally come to light, bringing closure to those affected by the shocking events that took place more than two decades ago.
