The Tapi district police in Gujarat made a significant breakthrough on Wednesday by apprehending two individuals in connection with the tragic murder of RTI activist Sudhir Chaudhary. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, occurred in the quiet village of Kumbhariya in the Dolvan taluka of Tapi district.

The police investigation revealed that a heated dispute over the sale of a piece of land owned by one of the accused ultimately led to the untimely demise of the activist. The perpetrators, identified as Vikas Chaudhary (28) and Jayesh Chaudhary (30), both residents of the Kosambiya village, were taken into custody after confessing to their involvement in the crime.

According to Dolvan police sub-inspector B B Parbhane, the sequence of events leading to the murder unfolded on a fateful Sunday evening. Sudhir, along with his acquaintances Vikas and Jayesh, ventured to Vikas’s agricultural field for an evening of drinks and conversation. However, tensions escalated when Sudhir expressed his disapproval of Vikas’s intention to sell his land, leading to a heated argument between the three individuals.

As the situation spiralled out of control, Vikas retreated to his home, leaving Jayesh and Sudhir embroiled in a bitter altercation. In a moment of rage, Jayesh, a distant relative of Sudhir, resorted to violence and strangled the activist with a piece of cloth. Subsequently, Jayesh alerted Vikas to the grim turn of events, prompting the duo to relocate Sudhir’s lifeless body to a different location.

In a desperate attempt to conceal their crime, Vikas and Jayesh transported Sudhir’s remains on a motorcycle to a nearby agricultural plot owned by Vazir Chaudhary. The callous act was intended to mislead authorities and divert attention from the true perpetrators of this heinous act.

The police, utilizing a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, were able to swiftly apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice. The accused were presented before the court, which granted a one-day police remand to facilitate further investigation into the case.

As the investigation continues to unfold, the authorities have seized the phones of Sudhir, Jayesh, and Vikas to extract valuable information that may shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic murder. The tight-knit community of Kumbhariya remains in shock over the loss of a dedicated activist whose commitment to social justice will not be forgotten.

In the wake of this senseless act of violence, the Tapi district police reaffirm their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served for the victim and his grieving loved ones. The swift resolution of this case serves as a testament to the dedication and professionalism of law enforcement officials in Gujarat.
