Police Hunt Escaped Inmate and Suspect in Boise Shooting

Authorities in Boise, Idaho, are on the lookout for an escaped inmate and another suspect following a shooting incident involving corrections officers in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The dramatic events unfolded at around 2:15 a.m. local time as officers from the Idaho Department of Corrections were in the process of transporting inmate Skylar Meade back to the corrections facility.

Meade, who had been receiving treatment at the Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, was being prepared for transfer when an unidentified suspect opened fire on the officers. In the exchange of gunfire that followed, two officers were shot, with one sustaining non-life-threatening injuries and the other in critical but stable condition.

Manhunt Underway

After the shooting, Meade and the suspect made their escape and were last spotted fleeing the scene in a gray four-door sedan, believed to be a Honda Civic. Boise police swiftly responded to reports of an active shooter at the hospital, prompting a modified lockdown of the facility. In the chaos that ensued, one of the responding officers fired at an armed individual at the hospital entrance, later identified as an Idaho Department of Corrections officer who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar condemned the incident as a “brazen, violent, and evidently coordinated attack” designed to aid Meade’s escape. He issued a warning to the public, urging anyone who comes into contact with the suspects to refrain from confronting them and to immediately contact emergency services.
