Jaipur: Tension gripped a neighbourhood in Rajasthan’s historic city of Chittorgarh as reports emerged of a disturbing incident involving stone pelting during a religious procession on Tuesday night. The incident left approximately a dozen individuals wounded, with one man tragically losing his life after receiving primary medical care.

The unsettling episode unfolded in the Raashmi police station area, where a religious procession was being conducted under the cover of darkness. Trouble brewed when a group of men reportedly raised objections to the procession passing by a local mosque, sparking a heated dispute.

Amidst the escalating tensions, the situation took a violent turn as the dissenting group resorted to pelting stones, resulting in injuries to several attendees of the procession. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, one individual, identified as Shyam Lal Chhipa, succumbed to what is believed to be a heart attack later that night.

Authorities Spring into Action

Reacting swiftly to the distressing turn of events, District Collector Alok Ranjan confirmed that the injured individuals were promptly attended to. However, the untimely demise of Shyam Lal Chhipa underscored the gravity of the situation, with a heart attack believed to be the primary cause of his demise.

Superintendent of Police Sudheer Joshi disclosed that 18 individuals have been apprehended in connection with the stone-pelting incident targeting the Hindu religious procession. These suspects are currently undergoing questioning as law enforcement seeks to unravel the motives behind the violent outburst.

In a bid to restore calm and prevent any further turmoil, additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain order and safeguard the community from any potential flare-ups.
