The Stamford Police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad, known as “CARS”, completed their investigation into the tragic collision that took place on West Main Street near Alvord Lane. The incident occurred at 6:13 am on November 21, 2023, as Ms. Jean-Charles was crossing West Main St from north to south.

The Fatal Collision
Tragically, Ms. Jean-Charles was struck by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the eastbound travel lanes of West Main Street. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
The Suspect identified
Despite the offending vehicle failing to stop after the collision, Stamford Police’s “CARS” identified a suspect early in the investigation. Salvatore Longo, a 58-year-old resident of Cos Cob, was interviewed and denied striking the pedestrian with his vehicle. The suspect vehicle was seized for further investigation.
The Arrest and Charges
After receiving test results from the State of CT Forensic Laboratory, an arrest warrant application was prepared for Longo. The warrant, approved by the Stamford State’s Attorney’s office, charged Longo with Misconduct with a Motor Vehicle and Felony Evading Responsibility, with a $750,000 court set bond.
