Jamestown police have identified the victim who died in Monday’s shooting as a resident of Dunkirk, in a heartbreaking turn of events that has shocked the local community.

Details of the Incident

According to a news release issued on Wednesday morning, the Jamestown Police Department responded to a residence at 839 Prendergast Ave. following a reported gunshot complaint. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals involved in what appears to be an isolated incident.

Tragically, Trevon D. Tripp, aged 26, was found deceased within the apartment building, while the two other individuals sustained serious injuries. A Heartfelt Plea for Support

In the wake of Tripp’s untimely passing, his aunt, Ashley Curtis, has initiated a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral and memorial expenses. Describing Tripp as someone with a “heart of gold” who was always willing to lend a helping hand, Curtis appeals to the public for assistance in this difficult time.

Tripp leaves behind two young toddlers, as well as his mother who recently underwent major brain surgery and is currently unable to work. Any contributions towards the fund would be greatly appreciated, with any surplus funds going towards supporting Tripp’s children.

Community Response

In addition to the Jamestown police, the Chautauqua County Emergency Management Services, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt, and the Jamestown Fire Department also responded to the scene of the incident. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of community support in times of crisis.

It is worth noting that this is not the first fatal shooting to occur in the vicinity of the 800 block on Prendergast Ave. In August 2022, another tragic incident claimed a life in the same area, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and community engagement in addressing such violence.

As the investigation into this recent shooting continues, the community is urged to come together in support of the affected families and to assist law enforcement in bringing those responsible to justice.
