Four Arrested in Connection to Chicago Expressway Shootings

CHICAGO – Four individuals have been apprehended within a 24-hour period in relation to violent incidents on Chicago area expressways. Malik Sutherland and Victor Ponce, both aged 20 and hailing from Buffalo Grove, are facing charges of attempted murder following a road rage shooting in Palatine.

Jervon Whitaker, a 26-year-old resident of Chicago, has also been charged with attempted murder for his alleged involvement in a shooting within the city. Additionally, Byron Moore, 28, also from Chicago, is facing charges of aggravated battery after a lengthy two-year investigation into an incident on Interstate 94.

Road Rage Shooting in Palatine

On January 17, Illinois State Police (ISP) troopers received reports of shots fired on Illinois Route 53 and Lake Cook Road in Palatine. The victim’s vehicle was targeted by individuals in a charcoal Honda following a road rage altercation that originated on Interstate 290. Fortunately, the victim escaped unharmed from the shooting.

After an extensive investigation, Sutherland and Ponce were identified as the primary suspects in the Palatine incident. Both individuals were taken into custody on Tuesday and are now facing criminal charges.

Expressway Violence in Chicago

On January 26, ISP troopers responded to another road rage-related shooting on Interstate 94 southbound at 47th Street in Chicago. Following inquiries into the incident, Whitaker was identified as the alleged perpetrator and subsequently apprehended on Tuesday.

Subsequently, on April 29, 2022, ISP troopers were called to the scene of another expressway shooting on I-94 northbound at Archer Avenue in Chicago. After an extensive two-year probe, Moore was taken into custody on Tuesday and is now facing legal consequences for his actions.
