LONG BEACH, Calif. – Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were called to investigate a tragic incident that unfolded in the city of Bellflower. An armed suspect, who was accused of violating his restraining order, was shot and killed by deputies during a confrontation. In the same incident, a deputy was injured after the suspect deliberately hit him with his vehicle.

The incident began on a Tuesday evening when deputies from the Lakewood Station responded to a call regarding a restraining order violation at a home in the 15900 block of Indiana Avenue in Paramount. Upon their arrival, deputies spoke with the victim, who was identified as the mother of the suspect’s children. The suspect was seen driving by the home, prompting deputies to initiate a search.

Deputies later located the suspect driving eastbound on Artesia Boulevard near Downey Avenue in Bellflower. An attempt to stop the suspect led to a dangerous confrontation. As a deputy pulled up behind the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect intentionally accelerated and reversed, crashing into the front of the deputy’s patrol car.

Investigators revealed that the suspect intentionally backed into a deputy with his vehicle in Long Beach.

Upon exiting the vehicle, the suspect armed himself with a knife and charged at the deputies, prompting them to open fire. The shooting occurred just before 9:20 p.m. The injured deputy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries sustained in the crash before being released.

Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department attended to the suspect at the scene, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the LA County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
