The Ceres Police Department responded to a call requesting a wellness check on a resident in the area. Upon arriving at the location, officers found several people, including an elderly woman and a juvenile girl, living in deplorable conditions. The investigation took a grim turn when officers discovered a total of 86 dogs also residing inside the home.

Rescue and Treatment

The dogs were promptly removed from the premises and taken to the Stanislaus County Animal Shelter for urgent medical treatment. Meanwhile, the juvenile girl was taken to a local hospital and placed under the care of Child Protective Services. The elderly woman was also hospitalized for medical evaluation and assistance from Adult Protective Services.

Arrests Made in Connection with Abuse and Neglect

As a result of the investigation, three individuals were arrested on charges of child abuse, elder abuse, and animal cruelty. The suspects were identified as 43-year-old Lissette Stdenis, 43-year-old Seth Bedal, and 22-year-old Freddy Vasquez. Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be brought against the perpetrators.

Appeal for Support

The Stanislaus County Animal Services shelter, where the rescued dogs are currently being cared for, is reported to be “well over capacity.” Authorities are urging members of the public who are interested in adopting or fostering an animal to reach out to the shelter for assistance.
