The Tragic Double Homicide in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY — A judge has handed down a severe sentence to a Kansas City man for a double homicide that shocked the community in August 2020. Cleon D. White, 36, has been sentenced to Life In Prison Without Parole plus an additional 65 years for his heinous crimes, as confirmed by Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

The Incident

The shocking incident took place in the 2700 block of Guinotte Avenue in Kansas City, where police officers responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered two lifeless bodies in a gold Honda, identified as 23-year-old Jahmiere Green and 27-year-old Brandon Rainey.

The Investigation

Video surveillance footage revealed a white SUV following the victims’ vehicle on Guinotte Avenue. The SUV pulled up alongside the victims’ car before it came to a halt. Subsequent events indicated a deliberate and tragic turn of events, with no movement observed after the SUV departed. The SUV returned to the scene briefly before leaving again.

Further investigations led detectives to a parking lot on East Third Street, where the same SUV was seen shortly after the murder. A man exiting the vehicle matched the description of an individual seen meeting with one of the victims prior to the fatal incident.
