Details of the Gruesome Incident in Encino

The quiet neighbourhood of Encino was rocked by a horrific discovery more than four months ago. A dismembered torso of a woman was found dumped in a trash bin, sending shockwaves through the community. The victim was later identified as 37-year-old Mei Li Haskell, whose cause of death remains undisclosed, but the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s report, Haskell’s body was found with her “head, majority of the neck, and majority of all 4 extremities” missing. The report also mentioned that the “amputation sites” appeared to have been done with a “sharp power tool,” indicating a gruesome act of violence.

The autopsy report further revealed a chilling possibility – that the victim may have still been alive when she was dismembered. While there was no definitive indication that the dismemberment occurred before her death, it cannot be entirely excluded that the removal of her head and neck was initiated prior to her passing.

Suspect Charged with Multiple Murders

The prime suspect in this heinous crime is none other than the victim’s husband, 35-year-old Samuel Bond Haskell. He has been charged with the killings of his wife and her parents, who are still missing. Samuel Haskell pleaded not guilty in January and is currently being held without bail.

The murder charges against Samuel Haskell include a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, which could potentially lead to a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if he is convicted as charged.

The Shocking Discovery in Tarzana

The victims, who resided in a Tarzana home on Coldstream Terrace, were last seen on or about November 6, 2023. Samuel Haskell allegedly hired four day laborers to remove several heavy black plastic trash bags from the home, which ultimately led to the gruesome discovery of body parts.

District Attorney George Gascón expressed shock and horror at the crimes, stating that the community stands with the victims’ loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time. The Major Crimes Division is dedicated to ensuring that justice is served and that the severity of this devastating crime is reflected in the prosecution.

The incident has left the community reeling, with many still coming to terms with the gruesome details that have emerged. As the investigation continues and the legal proceedings unfold, the hope for justice for the victims remains strong.
