Greater Noida Accident: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening in Greater Noida on the Yamuna Expressway, where a man lost his life and two others were injured as a speeding car crashed into them. The driver of the vehicle had reportedly fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the devastating accident.

The shocking incident took place when the victims, who were waiting for a bus on the roadside, were struck by the speeding car. The driver, identified as Raja Kumar, allegedly dozed off while driving, resulting in the tragic collision, which led to the death of 37-year-old Suresh Singh, a resident of Jahangirpur in Jewar.

Kumar, who works at a bank in Delhi, was promptly arrested and booked under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence. He claimed during questioning that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel on the Yamuna Expressway, leading to the fatal accident.

Despite being granted bail by a local court, the incident sheds light on the road safety issues in the area, with Gautam Buddh Nagar, encompassing Noida and Greater Noida, being known for its high number of road accidents.

In 2023 alone, the district witnessed 1,176 road crashes resulting in 470 fatalities and 858 injuries. This alarming trend continued from the previous year, with 437 deaths and 856 injuries recorded in 2022.

Similar Incident in Rajasthan

Last month in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, a similar incident occurred where a driver suffered a heart attack while behind the wheel, resulting in a car ploughing into a religious procession. The driver, 60-year-old Ishaq Mohammad, lost consciousness due to the heart attack, causing the vehicle to speed into the crowd, injuring five people.

The SUV, moving slowly behind the religious procession, suddenly accelerated as Mohammad lost control of the vehicle due to his medical emergency. The incident, captured on CCTV, highlighted the dangers of health emergencies while driving.

As these incidents serve as reminders of the importance of road safety and awareness, it is crucial for drivers to prioritize their well-being and avoid any distractions that may lead to tragic consequences.
