The arrest of DSP Kiran Nath was made on Sunday evening under sections 376 (raping female under sixteen years) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, as confirmed by the police.

The victim stated that Nath had forcibly confined her within his residence and subjected her to torture with the assistance of his family members. She disclosed that she was repeatedly subjected to rape by Nath in an unnatural manner.

Following the ordeal, the girl’s family lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Dergaon police station in Golaghat district on Saturday night, leading to the registration of a case against Nath on the subsequent day.

“She managed to escape from the house recently and returned home. Upon narrating her harrowing experience, we decided to take legal action,” shared family members with the media on Saturday.

Further Investigation and Law Enforcement Response

The director general of police (DGP) in Assam, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, shared details of the case through a post on X on Sunday evening.

“Reference allegations of sexual misconduct towards the housemaid by a DSP posted at Lachit Borphukan Police Academy (LBPA) Dergaon (Case No 42 under section 376, 506, and Section 6 of POCSO Act has been registered at Dergaon PS, District Golaghat,” he wrote.

Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy against sexual misconduct, the DGP stated, “Zero tolerance towards sexual misconduct amongst police personnel remains a cornerstone of the policy of Assam Police Headquarter.”

It was revealed that Nath’s wife allegedly supported him and attempted to conceal his actions. A family member of the victim expressed disappointment, stating, “Being a woman, she should have stood against the sexual assault on a minor girl, but instead, she chose to silence the victim.”

Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the matter, gathering additional evidence and recording statements from the girl and other witnesses to ensure a thorough examination of the case.
