As they were walking, a car approached them and blinded them with its lights. Without warning, one of the suspects in the car opened fire, fatally shooting Rincon-Miller in the chest. The suspects quickly fled the scene in their vehicle, speeding away south on Southeast 16th Place.

The police received the distress call around 9:30 p.m. and rushed to the 2000 block of Southeast 16th Street to provide aid to Rincon-Miller. Tragically, despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
