The Tragic Discovery of Missing Woman in Lebanon, NH

In a sad turn of events, the community of Lebanon, NH, was left in shock after the discovery of the body of a missing elderly woman, Mardrey Swenson, near the Connecticut River. The incident took place in the early morning hours when Swenson, who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, walked away from her home.

Extensive Search Efforts by Lebanon Police

Lebanon Police were alerted to the disappearance of Swenson by her husband, who noticed she was missing at 2:35 a.m. Immediately, the police deployed personnel and a K-9 unit to Oak Ridge Road to search for her. Despite their efforts, Swenson could not be located, leading to the request for assistance from other agencies.

Community Support in the Search

During the search, the Lebanon community came together, with many good Samaritan neighbors offering to help in the search efforts. Volunteers from the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, New England K-9, and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department joined the search, along with the Lebanon Fire Department and the NH State Police Helicopter.

A Fisherman’s Critical Sighting

It was not until approximately 1:30 PM that a fisherman near the Connecticut River Water Treatment facility on South Main Street alerted authorities to a sighting. The state police helicopter was able to track the sighting, leading to the confirmation that it was Swenson’s body. Rescue personnel retrieved Swenson’s body from the river and brought her to shore at 2:42 PM.
