Choice Hotels is currently embroiled in a legal battle after a lawsuit was filed against them on behalf of a victim of sex trafficking. The victim, identified as “I.W.” in court documents, claims that she was trafficked on company properties, including a Rodeway Inn in Brockton, from 2016 to 2018.

The lawsuit, filed by Keches Law Group in Massachusetts U.S. District Court, alleges that the victim was in an abusive relationship for three years and was forced to engage in sex with strangers daily while staying at Choice Hotels properties. The complaint details the harrowing experiences the victim endured, including being controlled by traffickers and subjected to physical and psychological abuse.

Allegations of Abuse at Rodeway Inn

According to the complaint, the victim was repeatedly raped and abused at the Rodeway Inn in Brockton. Despite her pleas for help, no hotel staff intervened or contacted law enforcement. In one instance, the victim requested new room keys to prevent her trafficker from re-entering the room, only to have him break in through a window while hotel staff allegedly turned a blind eye.

The complaint also mentions similar incidents at a Rodeway Inn in Indianapolis, where the victim was sexually abused more than 50 times. It asserts that Choice Hotels should have been aware of the trafficking based on various red flags, such as drug use, an excessive amount of condoms in the trash, and a high number of male visitors entering and exiting the room.

Choice Hotels’ Response

Choice Hotels has declined to comment on the ongoing litigation but stated that they condemn human trafficking and are committed to creating a safe environment for their guests and staff. The company offers free trainings and resources to educate hotel owners and employees on how to identify and respond to human trafficking situations.
