Police Pursuit and Collision

Following the theft, the police initiated a pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle, which led to a 50-minute chase through the streets of Smithfield. The pursuit came to a dramatic end when the suspect’s vehicle collided with a bystander’s car at the intersection of Benns Church and South Church Street. The collision resulted in injuries to the occupants of the vehicles involved, adding to the chaos of the situation.

Arrest of Suspects

Despite the collision, the police managed to apprehend the woman driver, Tia Browne, at the Isle of Wight/Surry line. However, a male suspect, later identified as Christopher Cheek, managed to flee into the nearby woods, evading capture initially.

The pursuit was temporarily halted due to safety concerns but resumed after the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Deputies located the stolen vehicle in the Hardees parking lot. Eventually, Cheek was taken into custody, bringing an end to his run from the law.

On the other hand, Cheek has been charged with grand larceny, conspiracy to commit a felony, obstruction of justice, and felony evade and elude, with the possibility of additional charges pending confirmation.
