Man Dies After Setting Himself on Fire Outside Police Station in Shahjahanpur

A tragic incident unfolded in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, as a 45-year-old man, Tariq Ali, passed away at KGMC Medical College in Lucknow after setting himself on fire outside the superintendent of police’s office. The incident occurred following a dispute with his former business partner, Umesh Tiwari, over the sale of two goods vehicles.

Alleged Instigation and Tragic Outcome

Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena revealed that Ali was allegedly manipulated by six to seven individuals to take drastic action in order to push the police to intervene in his dispute with Tiwari. On March 5, following the instructions of the accused, Ali doused himself in an inflammable substance and set himself on fire outside the police station.

According to an FIR filed in the case, the accused promised Ali that by creating a scene in front of the police station, he would be able to retrieve his vehicle without having to return Tiwari’s money. Disturbingly, the accused individuals recorded the incident while the police attempted to extinguish the flames.

Legal Action and Investigation

Following the incident, a case was registered against seven individuals at the Sadar Bazar police station. Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar confirmed that Ali sustained severe burn injuries and was initially treated at a Government Medical College before being transferred to KGMC Medical College, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have taken swift action in the case, with three of the accused—Salman, KK Dixit, and Yogendra Yadav—already in custody. The remaining suspects are currently evading arrest, and investigations are ongoing to hold all responsible parties accountable.

Post-Mortem Examination and Legal Proceedings

Ali’s post-mortem examination is currently underway in Lucknow, shedding further light on the tragic circumstances that led to his untimely demise. The dispute between Ali and Tiwari was already a subject of legal proceedings and police investigation, as mandated by court orders.
