A devastating incident unfolded on December 12, 2023, just after 4:00 pm, when emergency responders rushed to a residence situated in the 1600 Block of East Telegraph Hill Road near Madison, Indiana. Upon reaching the scene, they were met with a harrowing sight – the house engulfed in flames. Despite their best efforts, the firefighters found four lifeless bodies inside the burning structure.

Collaborative Investigation Unveils Tragic Truth

Following the extinguishing of the fire, a team of dedicated investigators from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post took charge of the case. The Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Madison Police Department also lent their expertise to unravel the mystery behind the tragic incident.

The four individuals found deceased were identified as Naomi Briner, 35, Adelia Briner, 12, Leland Briner, 8, and Lyla Briner, 6. Naomi Briner, the mother of the three children, was tragically involved in the incident.

Autopsies Reveal Heartbreaking Details

The bodies were transported to Hamilton County, Ohio for detailed autopsies conducted by a forensic pathologist. The results painted a grim picture – the children had all succumbed to gunshot wounds, pointing towards a horrifying act of violence. The coroner’s office determined the cause of Naomi Briner’s death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Prosecutor’s Verdict

After thorough investigation and examination of the evidence, Jefferson County Prosecutor David Sutter reached a somber conclusion. He stated that the evidence strongly suggests that Naomi Briner was responsible for the deaths of her three children and herself.
