New Mexico State Police Officer Killed in Tucumcari Shooting
Law enforcement agencies in New Mexico are currently on the hunt for the suspect involved in the fatal shooting of state police officer Justin Hare, 35. The tragic incident took place on Interstate 40 in eastern New Mexico, near mile marker 320, approximately 50 miles west of the Texas state line.
According to reports, Officer Hare was conducting a welfare check on the interstate when he encountered a vehicle pulled over onto the shoulder of the traffic lanes. It was during this encounter that the shooting occurred, leading to his untimely death.
The suspect, who is currently at large, was last seen on foot wearing a brown hoodie and jacket on the I-40 Frontage Road between Montoya and Newkirk, around 30 miles west of Tucumcari. Authorities have issued a warning that the suspect is armed and dangerous, advising the public not to approach but to call 911 immediately if spotted.
In response to the tragedy, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed her condolences, stating, “It’s a tragic reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face each time they put on a uniform and report for duty.” Cabinet Secretary Jason Bowie also acknowledged the sacrifice made by Officer Hare, stating, “Officer Hare will never be forgotten, and his sacrifice safeguarding our state is worthy of the highest honors.”
As the search for the suspect continues, the community remains on high alert, hoping for a swift resolution to bring justice for the fallen officer and his loved ones.
