Evansville Man Arrested on Multiple Charges After Stolen Car Chase

In a dramatic turn of events in Evansville, Indiana, a 56-year-old man, identified as John Donald Crane, was apprehended by the Evansville Police Department after attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle on Friday morning.

The incident unfolded on W. Virginia Street, where an observant officer noticed a Ford Explorer driving recklessly, speeding, and weaving through traffic lanes. Upon activating their police lights and siren, the driver, later identified as Crane, refused to pull over and attempted to evade law enforcement.

The chase came to a crashing halt when Crane collided with a trailer while turning onto Florida Street. Despite the collision, Crane exited the stolen SUV and attempted to leave the scene on foot. The pursuing officer had to use force to subdue Crane and take him into custody.

During the encounter, Crane displayed signs of intoxication, with a portable breath test revealing a blood alcohol content of .178. Furthermore, Crane exhibited belligerent behavior at the hospital, verbally abusing medical staff and disregarding requests to cease his disruptive conduct.

The situation escalated when Crane threatened the arresting officer and made several attempts to spit on them. Additionally, it was reported that Crane urinated inside the police transport wagon, further complicating the already volatile situation.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle Crane was operating had been reported stolen in Spencer County.
