Suspect Linked to New Mexico State Police Officer Murder identified

In a tragic turn of events, the suspect in the murder of a New Mexico State Police officer has been identified as Jaremy Smith of Marion County, South Carolina. Authorities have also linked Smith to the death of a South Carolina woman, Phonesia Machado-Fore, who was found deceased on Friday.

Machado-Fore, a first responder in South Carolina, was reported missing by her family on Thursday before her body was discovered in Dillon County. The investigation revealed that Smith was driving her car at the time of the New Mexico officer’s murder.

Warrants Issued for Suspect in Officer’s Murder

Warrants have been issued for Jaremy Smith in connection with the murder of New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare. Officer Hare was fatally shot while responding to a call on Interstate 40 early Friday morning, according to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

An autopsy for Machado-Fore has been scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of her death. The tragic link between the two cases was established when New Mexico State Police contacted South Carolina’s Marion County Sheriff’s Office to report the involvement of Machado-Fore’s car in the officer’s murder.
