The tragic event occurred on March 7 at the Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive area of Brampton, leaving the neighbourhood in mourning.

The Peel Police, who responded to the scene, initially discovered what appeared to be human remains within the burnt residence. However, the exact number of casualties could not be confirmed at the time. Subsequent investigations revealed that the charred remains belonged to three family members: 51-year-old Rajiv Warikoo, his 47-year-old wife Shilpa Kotha, and their 16-year-old daughter Mahek Warikoo.
