On a sunny Friday afternoon, the picturesque views of the Courtney Campbell Causeway were interrupted by a harrowing water rescue. Clearwater Fire Rescue and Clearwater Police sprang into action just before 5 p.m. on March 15, 2024, responding to a distress call that would change the course of the day for all involved.

32-Year-Old Man in Trouble

A 32-year-old man from Haines City found himself in a perilous situation while swimming with his family in the waters off the causeway. As the waves grew stronger and the currents more unpredictable, the man began to struggle, prompting his loved ones to call for help.

In a heart-stopping moment, the diver managed to reach him just in time, pulling him from the water and into the hands of waiting paramedics.

Upon reaching dry land, the victim received immediate medical attention, with paramedics working tirelessly to revive him. Despite their best efforts, the man was rushed to Mease Countryside Hospital, where, tragically, he succumbed to the dangers of the water.
