Arrest Made in Case of Boy Found Dead in Suitcase
In a significant breakthrough, Dejaune Anderson, the mother of Cairo Jordan, whose body was discovered in a suitcase in Washington County back in 2022, has been apprehended in California after being on the run for two years.
The Indiana State Police made the announcement of Dejaune Anderson’s arrest on Friday. She was located in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. An ISP detective received crucial information from a concerned citizen, leading to Anderson’s apprehension as she attempted to board a train.
Investigation and Charges
The charges listed on the warrant against Anderson include Murder, Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death (Level 1 Felony), and Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 Felony). The investigation into this tragic incident began in April of 2022 when a mushroom hunter stumbled upon a suitcase in a densely wooded area in rural Washington County.
Within the suitcase was the lifeless body of 5-year-old Cairo Jordan. Dawn Coleman, aged 40, was revealed to have assisted DeJuane Anderson in disposing of Cairo Jordan, according to court documents. Coleman faced charges of aiding, inducing, or causing murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice.
Details of the Crime
Coleman informed the authorities that she had looked after Cairo while Anderson was incarcerated in Louisville for shoplifting and assault. Upon Anderson’s release, the two drove Cairo’s body to Washington County and left it inside a suitcase. Coleman confessed that Anderson believed Cairo was possessed by demons and had mentioned the necessity of exorcisms on her son on social media.
Surveillance footage from a property owner captured Anderson’s car stopping on the road where Cairo’s remains were found. Investigators were able to trace their phones to Pekin, Indiana, near the location where Cairo was discovered.
As a result of her involvement in this heinous crime, Coleman was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment with five years suspended to probation by the Washington County Circuit Court.
This development comes as a long-awaited closure to the tragic case that shocked the nation in 2022. The arrest of Dejaune Anderson marks a significant step towards justice for Cairo Jordan and his grieving loved ones.
