Tragic Discovery in Rural Indiana

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the lifeless body of a 5-year-old boy was discovered inside a brightly colored suitcase with a Las Vegas design in a remote area of Washington County, Indiana, on April 16, 2022. The shocking incident left the community reeling and authorities scrambling to uncover the truth behind the young boy’s untimely death.

Identification and Arrest Warrant Issued

Months after the discovery, the boy was identified as Cairo Jordan from Atlanta. Police revealed that he was just 5 years old at the time of his tragic demise. In October 2022, an arrest warrant was issued for Cairo’s mother, Dejaune Anderson, on charges of murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice.

Break in the Case Leads to Arrest

Recently, a breakthrough in the investigation occurred when a concerned citizen provided crucial information that helped authorities locate Dejaune Anderson. The Indiana State Police successfully apprehended Anderson in Arcadia, California, near Los Angeles, where she is currently being held at an LAPD detention center.

Second Suspect and Legal Proceedings

Aside from Cairo’s mother, Dawn Coleman was also arrested in October 2022 for neglect of a dependent resulting in death and obstruction of justice. Authorities alleged that Coleman assisted Anderson in disposing of the boy’s body. Coleman ultimately pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and received a 30-year prison sentence in November 2023.

Justice Served and Community Support

With the apprehension of Anderson and Coleman, authorities have stated that there are no outstanding suspects in the case. The autopsy revealed that Cairo died from vomiting and diarrhea that led to dehydration roughly a week before his body was discovered. Despite the tragic circumstances, the community of Washington County came together to honor Cairo, providing him with a proper funeral and ongoing tributes at his gravesite.
