Hong Kong Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection with Hit-and-Run Incident

Authorities in Hong Kong have taken two individuals into custody in connection with the tragic death of a woman in a hit-and-run incident in the Sham Shui Po area. The police revealed that one of the suspects, a 32-year-old man identified as Poon, was apprehended in the Sheung Shui district on Friday on suspicion of drug trafficking. It was discovered that Poon is the owner of a car that was linked to the incident.

During a search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers found approximately 30 grams of suspected cocaine and around 20 grams of suspected methamphetamines. The estimated street value of the narcotics seized was reported to be HK$52,000. Poon is currently being held in police custody as the investigation continues.

Details regarding the second suspect have not been disclosed at this time, as the police are still actively pursuing leads in the case. The authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as they delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the hit-and-run incident.

Incident Details

The tragic incident took place on Thursday night when police officers approached the driver of a white car that was illegally parked on a lane off Castle Peak Road in Sham Shui Po. The driver, initially identified as a man in his twenties, attempted to flee the scene and in the process, collided with another vehicle before mounting a pavement and striking a 66-year-old woman.

The injured woman was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital with serious injuries but tragically succumbed to her wounds the following day at 4.58pm. Additionally, two other individuals, surnamed Liu and Chong, sustained injuries during the chaotic sequence of events.

The Sham Shui Po district crime squad has taken over the investigation into the incident, which is currently being treated as a case of reckless driving, drug trafficking, and driving without a licence. The police are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.

As the community mourns the loss of the woman and prays for the swift recovery of the injured individuals, the authorities are working diligently to bring those responsible for the hit-and-run incident to justice.
