Teenager’s Body Identified After Border State Shootout

Family members have finally been able to identify the body of a recently turned 17-year-old teenager who was found in a city morgue in the Mexican border state of Coahuila. The teenager had been missing for several days following a violent shootout with authorities in the region.

The tragic incident unfolded last weekend near the city of Hidalgo, Coahuila, where a group of gunmen in multiple vehicles clashed with state police forces. The gunmen, who were attempting to enter the region, engaged in a fierce shootout with the officers before ultimately being forced to flee.

During the exchange of gunfire, two of the gunmen were killed, while eight others, including two women, were apprehended by the authorities. The captured individuals were subsequently charged with various weapons and drug-related offences by a state judge in Coahuila.

One of the deceased gunmen was identified as Alexis Gomez Torres, a teenager hailing from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. Nuevo Laredo is known to be a stronghold of the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas, a notorious criminal organisation operating in the region.

Authorities were contacted by a relative of Gomez Torres, who was able to positively identify him as one of the individuals killed in the shootout. This revelation sheds light on the dangerous and volatile nature of the border region where criminal activities often spill over from one state to another.

As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, incidents of violence and criminality along the Mexican border have been escalating in recent years. In 2019, the CDN-Los Zetas faction orchestrated a paramilitary attack in Villa Union, Coahuila, resulting in multiple casualties and widespread panic among the local population.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by both law enforcement personnel and civilians in the volatile border region. The ongoing conflict between rival criminal organisations continues to pose a significant threat to public safety and security.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas has undertaken significant efforts to uncover and report on the activities of criminal cartels in Mexico. The risks faced by citizen journalists working in these regions are immense, and their courageous efforts to expose the truth are invaluable. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles feature firsthand accounts of the impact of cartel violence in both English and Spanish.
