Human Remains Found in Grand County identified as Missing Man
MOAB — The human remains discovered in Grand County have been officially identified as belonging to Timothy Jordan Boone, who had been reported missing since August 4, 2021.
Grand County Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified on Sunday about the bones that were located in the Book Cliffs area in northeastern Grand County. Search and rescue teams from Grand County and Mesa County, Colorado, along with a Mesa County K-9 unit, successfully recovered the remains and sent them to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner. State officials have confirmed that the remains are indeed those of Timothy Jordan Boone.
According to the deputies, there is currently no suspicion of foul play in relation to Boone’s disappearance or death. They expressed their gratitude to all involved in bringing closure to Boone’s family.
Boone’s sister shared on Facebook that her brother had struggled with severe mental illness throughout his life. She described Boone as a talented writer, musician, artist, and photographer who advocated for the LGBTQ and homeless communities, always emphasizing the importance of love and acceptance.

Family members revealed that Boone had ventured to the San Rafael Swell on August 1, 2021, and was later assisted by a couple on an ATV who found him suffering from severe dehydration. He was taken to the Village Inn hotel in Huntington, Utah, but left the hotel and made his way to Moab, where he attempted to acquire a Verizon phone.
Subsequently, Boone was spotted alone on a trail in Montrose County, Colorado, before interacting with an individual at a co-op in Nucla, Colorado. The investigation into his disappearance gained renewed attention in May 2023 when a man shared a video on TikTok, revealing that he had discovered Boone’s backpack, guitar, and other belongings in the San Rafael Swell. The video quickly garnered nearly 10 million views.
