In a tragic turn of events, human remains were discovered in the remote Book Cliffs area of Grand County, Utah. The remains have been identified as belonging to Timothy Jordan Boone, a 36-year-old man who went missing in August 2021.
Timeline of Boone’s Disappearance
According to the Grand County Sheriff’s office, Boone was last seen in Moab, Utah, at a T-Mobile store before he went missing on August 4, 2021. The National Missing and Unidentified Person System reported that Boone’s vehicle broke down in the San Rafael Swell area of Sevier County. He was then given a ride to a fire station in Emery County by someone on an ATV.
After spending the night in a hotel in Huntington, Utah, Boone’s whereabouts became unknown. His disappearance sparked a widespread search effort that lasted for several months.

TikTok Video Leads to Discovery
In a surprising twist, a hiker named Ryan, who goes by the TikTok handle ry_of_the_desert, posted a video on May 22, 2023, showcasing items he found while exploring an archaeological site in the San Rafael Swell. The video featured a backpack, a guitar, clothing, and a blanket, among other items, that some viewers claimed belonged to the missing man.
Recovery and Identification of Remains
The recovery effort began when human bones were found in Grand County. Search and rescue officials, aided by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue K9 unit, located the remains on March 10, 2024. The bones were then sent to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for official identification.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office has stated that no foul play is suspected in Boone’s death. The discovery of his remains brings closure to a long and arduous search for answers surrounding his disappearance.
