Shooting Incident Involving San Isidro Mayor’s Drivers in Leyte
Two drivers associated with San Isidro Mayor Remedio Veloso were involved in a shooting incident in Barangay Dapdap, Alongalang town in the Province of Leyte. The victims, known by the aliases “Neil” and “Errol”, are both residents of San Isidro, Leyte.
According to initial investigations by the Alangalang Police, the victims were travelling towards Alangalang town proper in a grey pick-up truck when unidentified assailants fired multiple shots at the vehicle around 3 p.m. on March 14, 2024. The vehicle sustained damage in several areas.
Alias “Neil” suffered a gunshot wound to his lower back, while alias “Errol” escaped unharmed. Alias “Neil” was promptly treated at the Rural Health Unit in Alangalang.
Police Major Joshua Bien Chiquillo, the chief of Alangalang Municipal Police Station, reported that the perpetrators fled towards Santa Fe, Leyte. In response, Alangalang Police collaborated with neighbouring stations to conduct dragnet operations and sought assistance from Regional Forensic Unit 8 to process the crime scene.

Police Colonel Erwin Portillo, the director of Leyte Police Provincial Office, instructed all law enforcement units in Leyte to address the incident. “I am deeply saddened by this report. I have directed the chief of police in Alangalang to thoroughly investigate the incident and gather evidence, including reviewing CCTV footage in the area to identify the assailants,” Col. Portillo stated.
He also announced the implementation of a full alert status across the Province of Leyte. “Effective immediately, all municipalities in Leyte province will be placed on full alert,” he added.
In an interview with GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, Mayor Veloso expressed his belief that he was the intended target of the shooting due to his opposition to alleged political killings in the third district of Leyte.
