Shooting Incident Involving San Isidro Mayor’s Drivers in Leyte
Two drivers who work for San Isidro Mayor Remedio Veloso were involved in a shooting incident in Barangay Dapdap, Alongalang town in the Province of Leyte. The victims, known only as alias “Neil” and alias “Errol”, both hail from San Isidro, Leyte.
According to initial reports from the Alangalang Police, the victims were travelling towards Alangalang town proper in a grey pick-up truck when unidentified assailants opened fire on their vehicle at approximately 3 p.m. on March 14, 2024. The truck sustained multiple bullet hits in various parts.
Alias “Neil” suffered a gunshot wound to his lower back during the attack, while alias “Errol” escaped unharmed. Alias “Neil” was promptly taken to the Rural Health Unit in Alangalang for medical treatment.
Police Major Joshua Bien Chiquillo, the chief of Alangalang Municipal Police Station, revealed that the perpetrators fled towards Santa Fe, Leyte following the incident. In response, the Alangalang Police have collaborated with neighbouring stations to conduct dragnet operations, and have also sought assistance from the Regional Forensic Unit 8 to process the crime scene.

Leyte Police Provincial Office director, Police Colonel Erwin Portillo, has instructed all field units in Leyte to swiftly address the situation. “I am deeply dismayed by this report. I have directed the chief of police in Alangalang to thoroughly investigate this incident and to exhaust all possible avenues in gathering evidence, including the review of CCTV footage in the vicinity to potentially identify the perpetrators,” Col. Portillo stated.
Col. Portillo also declared a full alert status across the Province of Leyte. “Henceforth, all municipalities in Leyte province will be placed under full alert status,” he announced.
In an exclusive interview with GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, Mayor Veloso expressed his belief that he was the intended target of the shooting incident due to his opposition against the alleged string of political killings in the third district of Leyte.
