Nelson County Man Arrested After Leading Deputies on High-Speed Chase and Crashing into Law Enforcement Vehicles

Nelson County, Va. (WFXR) — A man was apprehended by authorities after allegedly engaging in a high-speed chase in Nelson County and colliding with two law enforcement vehicles in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident unfolded shortly after midnight on March 15, when deputies attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle on Route 151 in the Nellysford area. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Shaquan Wilson from Waynesboro, reportedly ignored the deputies’ signal to stop and instead accelerated away.

Wilson’s driving became increasingly erratic as he repeatedly veered across the center line. Despite the deployment of spike strips by deputies, which successfully punctured two of the vehicle’s tires, Wilson persisted in fleeing from law enforcement.

As the pursuit progressed, Wilson collided with a patrol vehicle at the intersection of Route 151 and Tye Brooke Highway. He then continued onto Harvey Road, veering off the road, traversing a ditch, navigating over an embankment, and driving through a church parking lot.

Subsequently, Wilson struck a second patrol vehicle before careening through a yard, crashing into a fence, and tumbling over another embankment.

Upon exiting the vehicle, Wilson attempted to evade authorities on foot. Following a brief chase, he was apprehended and transported to the UVA Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Wilson faces a litany of charges, including Felony Eluding, Felony Assault and Battery on Law Enforcement (x2), Felon in possession of a firearm, Hit and Run, Felony Hit and Run (x2), Felony Property Damage (x2), Misdemeanor Property Damage, Obstruction of Justice, Falsely identify, Speeding, Driving without a license, and Possession of Dangerous Drugs (Waynesboro charge).

He is currently being held without bond at the Albermarle County Regional Jail. WFXR News will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
