Man Arrested for Attacking People with Baseball Bat in Idaho Falls

A 29-year-old man, Ricardo Arellano-Orta, was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting multiple individuals with a baseball bat, starting at AH Bush Elementary School in Idaho Falls.

The disturbing incident unfolded on a Monday afternoon at around 3:10 p.m. when Idaho Falls Police received a call regarding a man wielding a baseball bat and threatening people near the elementary school.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Arellano-Orta driving away in a black Ford Fusion. Despite their efforts to catch up to the vehicle, the suspect managed to flee the area, prompting authorities to return to the school for further investigation.

Threats and Aggressive Behaviour

Witnesses, including a relative of Arellano-Orta, informed the police that the suspect had been engaging in threatening behaviour and had previously attempted to run the relative over with his vehicle that same morning.

It was revealed that Arellano-Orta confronted the relative at the school and brandished a white and silver baseball bat, uttering menacing words towards him. The witnesses expressed fear of the suspect due to his erratic actions and the alarming nature of the threats.

Arrest and Discovery of Evidence

Later in the day, dispatch received a report of Arellano-Orta threatening individuals on Whispering Pines Drive. Subsequently, an officer intercepted the suspect near 12th Street and Woodruff Avenue, leading to his arrest and subsequent interrogation.

During a search of Arellano-Orta’s vehicle, law enforcement discovered a black, white, and silver Louisville slugger bat, along with several bank cards belonging to one of the witnesses. As a result, he was apprehended and booked into the Bonneville County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

Legal Proceedings and Potential Consequences

A no-contact order was issued for the victims, and Arellano-Orta is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on March 22. If convicted of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or instrument, he could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

It is important to note that being charged with a crime does not equate to guilt, as individuals are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.
