Delhi Police Arrest Armed Robbery Accused and His Associate After Gunfight in Dwarka

The Delhi Police crime branch made a breakthrough on Friday by apprehending an armed robber and his associate after a dramatic gunfight in Dhulsiras village, located in southwest Delhi’s bustling neighbourhood of Dwarka. This daring operation led by senior police officers has finally put an end to the reign of terror unleashed by the accused in the area.

The apprehended criminal, identified as Miraj alias Mehraj, was a notorious figure wanted in connection with a high-profile Rs.3 crore armed robbery case. Additionally, Miraj had a history of involvement in five other cases of robbery and Arms Act violations, making him a dangerous threat to society. The police had placed a generous reward of Rs.2 lakh for any information leading to his capture.

Multiple law enforcement teams, including the special cell, crime branch, and district police, had been relentlessly pursuing Miraj ever since the armed robbery incident occurred in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar last year. The elusive criminal had managed to evade capture until this dramatic showdown in Dwarka.

Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) (crime) Sanjay Bhatia revealed that the crime branch’s western range-II (WR-II) team received a crucial tip-off late Thursday night, indicating that Miraj would be making an appearance in Dhulsiras village alongside his trusted associate. This valuable intel was swiftly passed on to area police inspector Akshay Kumar, who promptly mobilised a team to intercept the fugitive duo.

As the clock struck 2.30am on Friday, the police team swiftly set up a trap in the vicinity, awaiting the arrival of Miraj and his accomplice. Just 15 minutes later, the wanted criminals were sighted, and the officers moved in to make the arrest. Despite being given the opportunity to surrender peacefully, Miraj opened fire on the police party, prompting a swift response from Inspector Kumar, who managed to subdue the assailant by shooting him in the leg.

Following a tense exchange of gunfire, the law enforcement team successfully apprehended Miraj’s associate and recovered two firearms from their possession. Miraj, who sustained injuries during the confrontation, was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

The incident that led to Miraj’s downfall unfolded in the early hours of May 7 last year when a gang of five masked men armed to the teeth stormed into a businessman’s residence in Ashok Vihar. The brazen criminals held the entire family hostage at gunpoint before making off with a staggering sum of Rs.3 crore. While four suspects were apprehended by the crime branch a month later, Miraj managed to evade capture, leading to a widespread manhunt.

Speculation was rife that Miraj had sought refuge in Bangladesh to evade the long arm of the law, prompting the Delhi Police to announce a substantial reward for his capture. However, thanks to the relentless efforts of the police force and the successful operation in Dwarka, the reign of terror orchestrated by Miraj has finally come to an end.
