Minnesota Woman Faces Charges in Connection with Fatal Shooting

By Chris Boyette and Raja Razek, CNN

(CNN) — A woman from Minnesota has been charged in connection with the purchase of guns that were allegedly used by her partner in the fatal shooting of three first responders during an armed standoff last month, prosecutors have revealed.

Accusations Against Ashley Anne Dyrdahl

Ashley Anne Dyrdahl, aged 35, stands accused of buying at least five firearms under her name for her long-time significant other, Shannon Gooden, who is prohibited from owning guns due to his felony status, according to the US Attorney’s Office in Minnesota.

Tragic Incident in Burnsville

The incident unfolded at the couple’s residence in Burnsville, Minnesota, on February 18, when Gooden barricaded himself inside the house with his family, including seven children, and opened fire on the first responders who arrived at the scene. Tragically, two police officers and a firefighter lost their lives, with another officer sustaining injuries.

Legal Restrictions and Tragic Consequences

Despite being aware of her partner’s felony status, Dyrdahl allegedly purchased the firearms between September 2023 and January 2024 and transferred them to Gooden. This violation of the law has resulted in Dyrdahl facing charges of conspiracy, straw purchasing, and making false statements during firearm purchases.

Legal Proceedings and Mourning the Fallen Heroes

Dyrdahl was set to appear in court on Thursday, and it remains unclear whether she has legal representation. The fallen officers, Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, both aged 27, along with firefighter-paramedic Adam Finseth, aged 40, were mourned as heroes by Burnsville Police Chief Tanya Schwartz.
