The Notorious Vehicle Thief Strikes Again in Bonnyville

A Spree of Theft Begins

The saga began on March 6th when a member of the Bonnyville RCMP attempted to stop a truck for running a stop sign. Rather than complying, the driver, later identified as Klody Cardinal, led officers on a chase to a trailer park north of Bonnyville. Eventually, Cardinal was apprehended, and it was revealed that the truck, a 2012 Ford F150, had been reported stolen from Glendon just hours prior to the incident.

A Repeat Offender

Despite facing charges including possession of a stolen vehicle over $5,000, obstruction, and fleeing from a police officer, Cardinal was inexplicably released by a Justice of the Peace with the condition that he not be found in possession of a vehicle unless the registered owner was present. However, this did not deter him from striking again.

The Second Arrest

Just three days later, on March 9th, Cardinal was spotted by RCMP fueling up another stolen vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado reported stolen from Ardmore a week earlier. When approached by law enforcement, Cardinal attempted to flee once more, but this time, he was swiftly captured with the help of a joint effort between Bonnyville RCMP and Cold Lake Police Dog Services.

Concerns and Consequences

Now facing additional charges, including theft from a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a release order, Cardinal’s actions have sparked concerns among residents and law enforcement about the effectiveness of the justice system in deterring repeat offenders. His court appearance is scheduled for March 19th, where the community eagerly awaits justice to be served.
